    Breast Augmentation

Home »  Breast »  Breast Augmentation

To increase breast volume, through the silicone prosthesis implant.

This procedure is a choice for women who have natural small breasts, or for those women whose breasts became flaccid after breastfeeding period.

    Anatomical Facts

The prosthesis can be placed under the “mammary gland” or under the pectoral muscle.

Insertion can be made through an incision at the intramammary ridge (the fold underneath the breast), through the areola or through the arm-pit.

I use the most modern silicone gel prostheses that present a thicker, textured, lining. These prostheses have shown the highest resistance against the formation of capsular contractions around the prosthesis.

Nevertheless, the formation of a capsule around the prosthesis cannot be prevented to happen since this is a natural body reaction. This capsule will become more or less evident, depending on each person. Further information regarding eventual complications can be found at the US FDA site.

I use round prosthesis, either of high or moderate profile. Anatomically shaped prosthesis (water-drop shape), may be also used, depending on the case.

The choice of shape will depend on the shape of the existing breasts.

The final breast size will be the sum of the prosthesis volume and the volume of the existing breast tissue. That is why it is very important that this amount should be proportional to the size of the patient thorax, regarding a harmonious result.

    Surgical Facts

The surgery can be made under general anesthesia or local anesthesia and sedation (a sleeping pill) for smaller operations. Normally, a 12 hours hospitalization period is required and so the patient is allowed to go home.

    Post-Surgical Care

The patient should use a supportive undergarment, which is wore right after the end of the surgery. This auxiliary procedure should last for 30 days (removed only for bathing).

Absolute home resting during 5 days is extremely recommended as well as the movement of the arms avoidance.

After this period the patient will be able to do some light activities.

Depending on the profession, it will be possible to return to work taking some care measures such as arm movement and heavy objects lifting avoidance.

Car driving will be allowed only after 30 days!

    Feminine View

As a woman, I am fully aware of the importance of the breasts as a mean of feminine expression and sensuality.

This is why I prefer to make the incision to the intramammary ridge (the crease underneath the breast) or to the arm-pit, as opposed to on the areola. Incisions to the areola may cause risk of deforming the natural anatomy of the region or result in the loss of sensitivity.

In the same way, whenever possible, I place the prostheses below the pectoral muscle, since in my opinion, this alternative causes a more natural look, mainly in the region between the breasts. Here we have an important question regarding further use of bikinis and low neck blouses and dresses.

Prostheses that are placed above the pectoral muscle often show semi-circles, especially in the region between the breasts, another positive reason to breast augmentation surgery choice.

Given the constant fashion and tastes changes, some women find this semi-circular definition more attractive.
